Getting to Gallifrey One via air is easy… and the following guide offers some helpful hints for your travels!
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Although visitors to Los Angeles may often be startled by the sheer size of our metropolitan area, have no fear… our convention is served by an airport less than a mile away. Los Angeles International Airport, also known worldwide as “LAX” by its airport code, is one of America’s largest and busiest air terminals. It’s a primary hub for United, American, Southwest and Delta Airlines… and all major North American airlines, as well as the majority of major international carriers, fly into LAX. (International flights usually arrive at the Tom Bradley International Terminal at the airport, also known as TBIT or Terminal B.)
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT HOTEL SHUTTLES: Hotel shuttles from Los Angeles International Airport now exclusively use the upper (departure) level of the airport, and do not pick up passengers on the lower (arrival) level. Upon arriving at LAX, make sure to go to the upper departures floor, exit the terminal and look for the red pylons indicating pick-up areas for local hotel shuttles. You will want to board the “LAX MARRIOTT” shuttles only.
Marriott shuttles run approximately every 20 minutes during the day, 30 minutes at night, and take about 5-10 minutes to reach the hotel from the airport (though it can be significantly longer if there is traffic gridlock, a common issue at LAX.) If for any reason the shuttle doesn’t arrive in a timely manner, call the Marriott at (310) 641-5700 and let them know you are waiting for a shuttle to the convention hotel (and remember to tell them which terminal you are at!)
Please be aware that LAX is under significant construction (due to the upcoming 2028 Olympics) so you may experience travel delays to or from the airport.
Both Uber and Lyft serve LAX Airport (and the Marriott) from a remote lot for both pick-ups and drop-offs; you will need to board one of the shuttles servicing this transportation option. There is a surcharge from both companies for airport service. Taxis are also widely available at the airport, as are local transportation options such as SuperShuttle and the Flyaway buses to other parts of the city.
Other Los Angeles Regional Airports
The Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area is also served by four additional commercial airports:
- Long Beach Municipal Airport, approximately 15 miles from the Marriott; this is primarily a JetBlue hub and has other limited jet service (domestic carriers only).
- Hollywood-Burbank Airport (Bob Hope Airport), approximately 30 miles to the north in Burbank, serving the San Fernando Valley and points north and east (domestic carriers only).
- John Wayne International/Orange County Airport, approximately 40 miles southeast in the heart of Orange County, near Disneyland.
- Ontario International Airport, approximately 60 miles east, serving the Inland Empire, San Bernardino & Riverside Counties.
All four are a distance from the hotel and it’s suggested you use them only if you are planning on extending your trip to the areas they serve as part of a larger trip.
Los Angeles does not have the best public transportation (in fact, our subway/metro service comes close to but does not actually specifically reach LAX without bus service) and taxis or rental cars are the primary mode of transportation for visitors. Also, please note that Van Nuys Airport, next to our old home the Airtel Plaza Hotel, is not a commercial airport; it is used strictly by private aircraft and charter aviation.
